Copywriting Tips for Retail Business Owners

Tip #386 - The Power of One

Dear Tip of the Weeker,

Here's a quick Tip about copywriting.

Write like you are talking to just one person.

Yes, I know that your emails, newsletters, brochures, post cards, (and so on) are going out to hundreds, even thousands, of readers. But each reader is a single individual. Write like you are having a personal conversation with that one reader.

The word "you" in your copy should not be the collective, plural "you," but the singular. Stay away from phrases like "you are all invited" or "Hi Everyone" since these show that you are not speaking directly to the reader.

Sometimes it helps to think about a real customer - pick your favorite customer or a typical customer and write like you are talking to that one person.

This simple technique will work wonders for your copy!

Wishing you great sales and lots of fun,

Bob Susan
