"Dollars are the easiest way to measure things- in 2008 we did just under 500K in 2009 we’d done almost 750K and right now it looks like were starting to close in on a million. It’s definitely caused by going through the System and learning. "One of the biggest things we implemented was having a loyalty rewards program. We made up the little 6 box card and I tell people we’re bribing them to buy our stuff here. Even though we’re still higher than other stores, our customers understand that after 6-8 purchases they get back 10% so they continue to come in.
It was a cultural shift, with this type of industry there’s a lot of online sales but we were able to add value by implementing rewards programs and in direct response people now exclusively buy from us opposed to going online. Lots of other hobby shops tell me all about “oh the online stores are taking all the business” but we’ve found a way to fight that."
Lots of Ideas = Lots of Growth
"Nailing down the best idea to one specific idea would be hard to do - there are so many great ideas. A lot of it is just common sense, common knowledge, but until somebody explains it to you in laymen’s terms you’d think it’s all just a mystery. Everything’s right there nice and neat and simple, you’ve got all the forms right that you can work with, so there’s not just one single great thing about it. I’ve done maybe 40-50% of the program and I’ve still only scratched the surface. If I’ve gone from 500K to a million this year and only have done just under half of what’s in the System I can only imagine where I’ll be once I get further in.
As terrible as it sounds, I haven’t even had time to use all the bonuses I got with the Retail Mastery System because business has been so busy right now. I went from 3 people working for me to 9 people working for me and I’m looking for a 10th right now."
