Tip # 457 - Innovate!
Dear Tip of the Weeker,
Yesterday we went to an amazing conference - TEDx Grand Rapids - and heard 16 diverse, exciting speakers talk about innovation.
For today's Tip, I thought I'd give you a peek inside my notebook at three of the many ideas I jotted down, ideas I thought were worth pondering and repeating...
- There is no such thing as a perfectly or permanently satisfied customer (or person, or audience.) This is the essential nature of human beings. We constantly seek more, strive for better. This is the seed of innovation.
- Innovations must be meaningful for them to take hold. Innovation for its own sake is not necessarily a benefit. The most successful innovations are the ones we stop noticing almost immediately - they become a natural, expected part of our experience.
- Deep listening is one key to good innovation. It's imperative to listen not just to what people say, but to the inner drive, the purpose behind the desire.
"If I'd asked my customers what they wanted, they'd have said a faster horse." ~ Henry Ford
What innovations in service or experience can you come up with that would give your customers more than they can imagine?
Ready, get set .... innovate!
